Knowing Hilumiers
Knowing HiLumiers is a project in which many members of the HiLumi LHC, past and present, were interviewed to gain an insight into the people of the project.
WP11 11T Dipole Bees
WP11 was descoped from the project in November of 2023
WP11 bees were responsible for the design and construction of the 11 T dipole magnets and of the new connection cryostats for the dispersion suppressor regions of the LHC.
The 11 T dipole magnet was a 6-meter-long magnet made of superconducting Nb3Sn, which was to allow the nominal field of the magnet to be increased from 8.3 T in the LHC dipoles to 11.2T in the 11 T dipole at the same operational current and with less length. These 11 T dipole magnets were to be connected in series with the main dipoles of the LHC machine. The goal was to obtain the longitudinal space needed for the installation of additional collimators in the LHC lattice as part of the upgrade of the LHC collimation system.
They worked side by side with bees from WP5.
