The first cryoassembly containing the first two Nb3Sn series magnets manufactured by the HL-LHC US-AUP departed from Fermilab on 30th October 2023

The first cryoassembly containing the first two Nb3Sn series magnets manufactured by the HL-LHC US Accelerator Upgrade Program (US-AUP) has just begun its journey to CERN.

This cryoassembly, which has successfully passed cold testing and reached acceptance performance, is travelling from Fermilab (Illinois, US) to the East coast for shipment by cargo in early November and is expected to arrive at CERN by truck in the first week of December.

After the final reception tests at CERN, the cryoassembly will be installed in the IT String test stand in SM18 in the first half of 2024.

This cryoassembly, which will be part of the Q1/Q3 magnets of the HL-LHC inner triplets, is the first stone of the US in-kind contribution to the HL-LHC project.
