TDIS at P8

Four months after the installation of the first unit at Point 2 of the LHC, the second and last TDIS are being integrated into the machine at P8. As per last time, the equipment has been lowered through P1 into the tunnel and hauled for 3 km on a dedicated trailer to reach its destination. Thanks to the vault handling system specifically mounted for this purpose, the TDIS has been lifted and displaced laterally, before it was let to rest on top of its 3 jacks. The cooling circuit has also been successfully connected to the LHC network and now the final alignment in the machine has to be conducted in order to allow the coupling to the vacuum line (Image: CERN).
