First series Double Quarter Wave crab cavity cryomodule arrives at CERN

The arrival of the first series DQW cryomodule to CERN is the culmination of more than 10 years of joint collaboration between CERN and UK-STFC that has realised this vital technology for the HiLumi LHC upgrade.

The arrival of the first series DQW cryomodule from UK-STFC to CERN marks a significant milestone for the High-Luminosity (HiLumi) LHC crab cavity project. It is the culmination of more than 10 years of joint collaboration between CERN and UK-STFC that has realised this technology, a vital component of the high-luminosity upgrade. An arduous hardware testing campaign in the SM18 facility awaits in the next six months, to validate the cryomodule performance. This will become a valuable experience for the remaining cryomodules, which are to arrive in the next years before their installation in the HiLumi LHC.

The HiLumi LHC Project and Work Package 4 (responsible for the crab cavities and RF) would like to take this opportunity to extend our huge gratitude to Nik Templeton who led the UK collaboration of the crab cavity project until recently and was instrumental in realising this joint endeavour which has brought many novel and challenging concepts to reality.
