All components for the Cold Powering Systems of the HL-LHC now at CERN
At the end of October 2025, ICAS delivered to CERN the last of the ten complex MgB₂ cable assemblies needed for the Superconducting Links of the Cold Powering Systems that will be used for connecting the magnets to the power converters in the HL-LHC.

Completion of DFX construction for the HL-LHC Cold Powering Systems
Each of the HL-LHC Cold Powering Systems incorporates, at its cold (4.5 K) end, a complex cryostat called a Distribution Feedbox (DF). Two types of DF cryostats are needed for the HL-LHC: five DFX, for the Triplets, and five DFM, for the Matching Sections.

The HL-LHC’s cold powering system successfully passed the tests
The HL-LHC’s cold powering system successfully passed the tests By Anaïs Schaeffer (CERN) on CERN News This is the first time that a full power transmission system, transferring current from room temperature to the liquid helium environment via MgB2 and REBCO superconducting technology, has been constructed and successfully validated in final operating conditions. “This great success is

Completion of the HL-LHC Cold Powering Collaboration Agreement with Uppsala University (DFHX and DFHM)
The Magnesium Diboride (MgB2) Superconducting Links (SC-links) of the HL-LHC Cold Powering Systems (HL-LHC Work Package 6A) terminate at their warm (20 K) end in complex cryostats, called DFHX for the Triplets and DFHM for the Matching Sections.
