WP4 Bees

WP4: CRAB CAVITIESHalf Height

WP4 bees are in charge of the design, construction and commissioning of the new superconducting Radio Frequency (RF) crab cavities. But what are these crab cavities?

A novel RF system consisting of eight cavities per beam for transverse deflection (aka crab cavities) will be used to compensate the geometrical angle of the bunches at ATLAS and CMS. The crab cavities will tilt the proton bunches of each beam in order to maximise their overlap when they meet at the heart of the two experiments and thus increase the likelihood of collisions.

These bees are working closely with bees from different countries such as the UK, Canada, USA and Russia and with WP2 and WP15 bees.
