Following the HL-LHC Circuit Instrumentation Detailed Design Review held in September 2020, the HL-LHC Magnet Circuit Instrumentation Day 2023 successfully took place on the 20th of June 2023 in the Kjell Johnsen Auditorium at CERN as an in-person meeting.
During the day, a final check of the design, implementation and commissioning practices for the instrumentation of the HL-LHC superconducting magnet circuits was carried out in view of the imminent implementation in the HL-LHC IT String facility. These magnet circuits include the HL-LHC Inner Triplet, D1, D2 and the related correctors.
The scope of the day included the quench detection and monitoring systems, interlocks, cryogenics instrumentation and insulation vacuum instrumentation foreseen for the HL-LHC. The deviations of the HL-LHC IT String from the tunnel baseline were highlighted, and the scope also included the design and testing of the components and wiring of the instrumentation system.
Due to its transverse nature, the HL-LHC Magnet Instrumentation Day 2023 has been organized under the umbrella of the Magnet Circuit Forum. 3 experts kindly agreed to follow the technical discussions in a format of 15-presentations and to provide their expertise and feedback. They will finally produce a report in which they present their findings and recommendations. The results of the discussions and the experts report will be presented to the HL-LHC Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) and other competent bodies in the upcoming weeks.
